The organisation

The Organisation:
Envision has a long and proud history of using social action programmes to help young people build their essential skills, while making change in their schools and communities.  We pivoted during the pandemic to ensure our young people did not miss out. Teachers and young people told us our team-based, skills-boosting, multi-week Envision programme was never needed more.

For years, Envision championed the power of youth social actions programmes as a vehicle to develop essential skills – something that was proven by our first, gold-standard evaluation a few years ago. We feel the wind is now at our back.  The importance of academic and technical skills is undeniable. But the critical importance of essential skills in helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve in school, work and life is gaining new attention, and rightly so. Of these three skills baskets, essential skills are the only ones transferable across time, roles and activities. And all the research tells us that teachers, employers and, most importantly, young people want to build these skills as well.

The Role:
We are looking for a Chair to join our exceptional Board and team to ensure that we can do more and do better for the long run. We need your help to grow our reach and impact to ensure more young people can recognise, build and maintain key essential skills through our programme. We also need support to help make the case for more impactful, school-mediated skills development for disadvantaged young people in the UK. This work will require us to work smarter with partners, old and new, joining up around young people’s outcomes.

We are particularly looking for someone who has a connection to the area that Envision operates in, such as youth employment, skills commissioning, policy or social investment - some education experience would be helpful but is not essential.

If you are passionate about Envision’s cause, aligned to the charity's values, have the ability to challenge and bring fresh new ideas, business acumen and strategic thinking to support our vision, then as we say at Envision; essential skills go with you, they grow with you.  We would love to invite you to go with us, to grow with us.

Due to these commitments, the candidate needs to be UK based and willing to travel.
